About Sussex University

The University of Sussex was established in 1960s and since then it has become one of the finest higher education and research institutions. According to the world rankings of Times magazine, Sussex has been ranked 8th in UK and 79th the world, quite an achievement for any university. Sussex University is home to about 10,000 students and among them a large number of postgraduates. The university provides a wide range of courses both at undergraduate and post graduate level and is in the process of expanding its degree programmes in new areas like business and management, modern languages, biomedical sciences, digital media, international security and science and enterprise.

Mission Of The University

The University of Sussex believes in imparting knowledge, skills, teaching and learning programs based on current research, life skills and social, cultural and economical development to the students irrespective of culture, race and religion. The professional services of the university act as the support system and contribute to the goals and strategy of the university. The education programs emphasize on teaching standards, research and entrepreneurial spirit and contribute directly to the students, alumni and the staff. They also help in providing services to community, organizations, friends, clients, partners and supporters.

Faculties And Research

The University of Sussex has highly educated and skilled faculty of around 2,200 staff members. There are around 550 members in the teaching faculty and 280 members in the research faculty. The university prides itself in having 3 Nobel Prize winners, six fellows of the British Academy, 13 members of the royal society and winner of the esteemed Crawford Prize on the faculty list. The university has over the time developed the status of a leading educational institution that thrives for innovation and creativity and hence attracts the best minds in the business.

The university also has a distinction of being a leader in research institute. It ranks among the premier institutions for research and development and was rated as one of the best 30 research institutes in UK. Over 90% of research work from the university has won the global recognition and is ranked highly for its research work across wide range of subjects.

Campus And Its Students

Sussex prides itself in having award wining architecture with one of the most beautiful campuses with large green spaces. It is situated in the Rolling parkland of Brighton. The buildings add to the aesthetics of the campus and one of the educational buildings of the campus Falmer House is listed UK exceptional buildings. The campus is situated in 200 acres of scenic parkland. It is a self sufficient village in itself with class rooms, accommodation, libraries, laboratories, sports center, shops, restraints, cafes, and bars all within the campus.

The university is global in its outlook and attracts a huge number of international students and staff members from 120 different countries from all over the globe. Almost one third of the staff is from outside UK. The university has partnerships with other esteemed institutions like Harvard University, Peking University and National Taiwan University.

The Sussex Innovation Centre supports the technology and knowledge based companies in Sussex. Over 160 companies are based in the centre and provide employment to the local community and generate local economy. The centre has around 80 companies which have thriving business of high growth.
